Dear: Dr. Tony Baldwin
High school, for most teenagers, is a rough period during our lives. Students struggle to please parents and teachers, the workloads pile high, and for some students it gets to be too much for them. Becoming a teenager comes with the need for more sleep, bad attitudes, and trying to figure out who we are.
Ever since I transferred from middle school onto TC Roberson High School I struggled with my grades. I wanted to be able to stay up as late as I want and still be able to wake up early in the morning and get to school on time. My main trouble during school was that I had to be there early in the morning and still be competent in my morning classes. This became a problem after I acquired my license, and then going to school seemed to look like a choice for me. The choices I made lead me to spending 4 hours a day in make-up attendance just so I could move on to my senior year. I was still able to pass all of my classes, but just barely. This was ok for me at the time, but after my junior year of high school had passed I realized that I don’t want to just “barely pass” through the rest of my life.
Switching to Middle College my senior year of high school was the smartest decision that I have made in a while. At first my decision was based on me being able to graduate early. But being in Middle College has helped me focus on the important things in life, including education. Middle College has helped me improve my motivation to do well in school; something that hasn’t interested me since elementary school. I haven’t seen my parents so proud of me because of the grades that were on my report card since 7th grade.
After I graduate from Middle College I plan to continue my college education at AB-Tech until my learning skills have improved enough to be able to transfer to a university. And now that I know I have the motivation and intelligence to get me through this I know that if I try hard enough I will succeed. I would like to thank you for giving me this wonderful opportunity to help me not just “barely pass” but to thrive on my education and to prosper in life.
Sincerely,
Amanda

Dear: Dr. Hank Dunn
Many students dread waking up in the morning, starting their day out going to the same boring school and trying to stay awake during the same boring classes. Being able to take college classes while still in high school gives students change in their schedules, gives them something to look forward to, and makes them feel more mature about their education. At least that’s what it did for me.
In my junior year at TC Roberson High School I started enrolling in college classes on the high school campus. The first college class I have ever taken was Criminal Justice with Ms. Lebeau. This is a class that I will never forget. Criminal Justice was the only class that I looked forward to during my junior year. It was new, exciting, and made me feel like more of an adult now that I was taking a college class. I took two college classes during my high school career, and that was something that I would not have been able to do without your help.
Continuing my high school education on a college campus did wonders for me. It’s always difficult to pay attention in class when you’re surrounded by all of your friends, so switching to a new school helped me pay more attention to my teachers instead of my peers.
Before I graduate from Middle College I will be starting my first semester of college here at AB-Tech. I couldn’t be more excited to continue my education here. After about 2 years of taking classes at AB-Tech I hope to be able to transfer to UNCA to further my education.
I would like thank you for giving me this wonderful opportunity to help better my education and help me realize that I do have what it takes to be successful in life.
Sincerely,
Amanda Pisano
